Women's History Month 2019

The observance of Women's History Month was established by Public Law. This observance runs through the month of March and celebrates the contributions of women to our nation. The 2019 Presidential Proclamation speaks on women's history and their outstanding contributions.

The 2019 Women's History Month theme, "Visionary Women: Champions of Peace and Nonviolence," honors and celebrates the struggles and achievements of American women throughout the history of the United States. This year's theme honors women who have led efforts to end violence and injustice.

They have rejected violence as counterproductive and stressed the need to restore respect, establish justice, and reduce the causes of conflict as the surest way to peace. This is represented in the poster female hands reaching for a dove, the universal symbol of peace.

The Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Gallery of Art, Smithsonian Institution, National Park Service and other Federal agencies in the DC Metro Area join in commemorating and encouraging the study, obervance and celebration of the vital role of women in Amerian history.
